“For three generations, our family has stood at the intersection of myth and botany.”
Royal Mad Honey Heritage was founded in 1892, born from a singular fascination with the cliff-dwelling hives of the Himalayas. We are not mere merchants; we are the custodians of a sacred Himalayan tradition.
Our journey begins where the roads end. We work exclusively with the Gurung tribesmen, honoring their ancient techniques of harvesting the medicinal ‘Mad’ nectar.
Twice a year, when the rhododendrons paint the slopes in hues of crimson and violet, the silence of the high peaks is broken by the rhythmic chanting of the honey hunters.

The secret of the ‘Madness’ lies in the Grayanotoxin found in the nectar of high-altitude rhododendrons.

Retaining raw medicinal properties
“In the ancient courts of the Shah Dynasty, Mad Honey was more than a delicacy—it was a diplomatic gift of the highest order. Sovereigns consumed it in small, measured doses to achieve a state of ‘Divine Clarity’ before making critical decisions of state.”
Historically, the finest harvests never reached the markets. They were whisked away to the palaces of Kathmandu and beyond, sealed in ceramic jars with the royal crest. Today, we bring that same restricted quality to the global connoisseur.
A single cliff hive may contain hundreds of pounds of common honey, but the true Mad Nectar—the variety high in pure Grayanotoxin—is often limited to less than 10 kilograms per season. It requires a specific window of blooming temperature that occurs only once every few years.
Because we refuse to blend our harvests with lower-grade honey to increase volume, our stock remains strictly limited. When the mountain does not provide, our vault remains closed.
